Just to keep this post a bit short, I’ll give you the condensed version of why and how we decided to eat healthy, exercise, and work on our relationship. Three things happened that whipped us into shape, first, we felt tired all the time (working too much and not enough sleep), second, our diet was making us fat, and third, Kevin had a health scare about two years ago that prompted him to make changes to lose over 160 lbs. through bariatric surgery.
Kevin’s health scare made me think about my own health, I would feel tired, anxious, and just not healthy. As a licensed therapist, I believe psychotherapy helps to “talk” through issues, but it’s just not enough. Eating a well-balanced diet that is high in protein and low in carbohydrates helps lift depression and anxiety, along with a daily exercise, yoga, and meditation routine. Having an open relationship where you can be the best of friends in your marriage and/or partnership is helpful too. Diet and exercise are king and queen along with a strong support system leads to a long healthy life.
